CiteRight allows you to create custom references within the Microsoft Word Add-In. All Ibids and Supras will be automatically tracked and a placeholder page in your Book of Authorities will be added, once generated.
Creating a custom reference
1. Click Create in the side panel of any collection. Custom refences will be visible across every collection. This is because they are not automatically added to the collection it is created in, but rather saved in the document itself.
2. Input the full citation, short-form, hyperlink, and select the type of pinpoint. Then, click Save and your custom reference will be saved.
Note: Custom references can be searched in the same way as other references, using the search bar or by scrolling through the list.
Citing and pinpointing custom references
Citing and pinpointing a custom reference is the same with a downloaded reference. The only difference is the pinpoint type of custom citations is determined when first created.
How does a custom citation appear in the Book of Authorities?
Since custom reference case texts are not downloaded to CiteRight, your Book of Authorities will not automatically contain the case text. On the second page of your BoA, you will find a page of "Additional Work Required," listing all documents that need to be inserted and pinpoints that need to be indicated. Note, the BoA Index will still list your custom reference and the BoA will contain its tab number page.
Visibility of the custom reference
Only the user that created the custom reference can see the custom reference; the rest of your firm can not. When you customize a reference, it is only visible in that document.
